As if we weren’t concerned enough about our children, chalk up another issue that will help contribute to your child rearing worries.

What to feed them, how to raise them, where to send them to school, how they should spend their spare time, and now…..how much sleep they need to avoid being overweight and hyperactive.

According to Medical News Today, children who have issues sleeping for a prolonged period of time are much more likely to become overweight and be hyperactive.

You’re interpretation of the title of this post may not be exactly in line with what it actually means. On the other hand, perhaps your interpretation of the title is exactly right. Either way, you will find out soon enough. In fact, you will find out now - Flying Superkids literally refer to flying kids. They may or may not be super. This I suppose is up to your individual opinion of what these kids do as well as any criteria you may affix to a person meriting the word super. Also, I think there may be a few Super Teenagers masquerading as kids in this troupe. Watch the video below and you’ll see what I mean.

“There are no professional technician(s) behind the show or anything like that. It's the kids parents that are helping out, and the coaches themselves. The kids home practice for strength to maintain their shape. Some of the things these kids do are so hard to learn for a normal gymnast, but these kids just do it. All it needs is practice and practice. And they have some incredible singers too. Just amazing.”

So there you have it. Kids who fly and appear to be super. Now if only we were in Denmark….

Back again with another installment of our ‘how-to’ series, we delve into a topic slightly more complicated. Complicated because it involves getting at the very nature of your child’s decision-making processes and attempts to change or alter habits they may not even realize they have. Complicated because many children are at an age where they can’t rationally realize and understand certain concepts. Complicated because according to many experts, all people are inherently selfish. So….complications aside, we bring you this week’s topic. We bring you the act of sharing. That’s right. We intend to discuss the realm of sharing from the view of an opinionated parent. We are not educated in the world of child psychology, we have not conducted well funded test studies on how these processes work, and despite the best laid plans of mice and men, we cannot say that our tips will work. We simply aim to provide suggestions based on real life trials and errors, experiences, and personal successes. So here we go.

A small disclaimer; know that sharing is a developmental process that children need to learn. These tips below are designed to help facilitate sharing amongst children who are unaware that they should be.

Offer your child or children compliments when they are acting in a cooperative nature. This will help instill an association between the child’s actions and your positive reinforcement

Utilize turns. This is a difficult process to actually implement as most children don’t comprehend the concept of time. However, if done successfully, the actual event of a timer driving toy turns can become a fun game in itself

Have them actively participate in the act of giving. For example, if your child is hungry, have them personally bring a snack to his/her friend as well

Practice respectful decision making If your child is wanting to play, have them make a decision where they can only use/play with one toy or another. This helps in the learning process in showing that not every thing is always theirs

When finished playing, have your child place their toys back where they “belong” Make sure toys have a specific keeping place. This creates a separation between the toy and the child them self

Plan activities that promote sharing. Try to incorporate cooperation and sharing into games and activities your child does when playing with friends

Having said this, in some instances it may be best not to mention easiest for you to simply let your child have their ‘mine’ time.

The choice is ultimately yours and is best determined based on the given situation.
